How to Inflate a Scooter Tire

Scooters are like bicycles. They have the same step-through type of architectural design. But rather than pedalling, you just rest your feet on its platform and its motor will take you to places you want to go.

This is a bit different from motorcycle. The platform is one differential point. Another difference is the type of tire that is used. In scooters, the tires used are much smaller. You have to be more careful in driving this at a fast speed as this is more susceptible to bumps and road cracks which might cause flat tires. You also have to consider the right way of inflating it to get just the right air pressure inside to make the tire last longer.

Here is how you can inflate it effectively:

How to Inflate a Scooter Tire

Step 1: Make sure your scooter is stationary in a flat surface so you can have better access to the valve. The valve stems has to be close to the ground so you can put the air hose better.

Step 2: Remove the valve stem caps first. You need to inflate it in the recommended PSI. You can check this information on the side walls of the tire. It has a number and the unit PSI on it. If you cannot find it there or the figures have already worn out, you can refer to the manual that came with the scooter.

You do not necessarily have to follow the recommended PSI level but just use it as a guide. If it the recommended PSI says 44 PSI, you can inflate the tire up to this but if you want one with better road grip, you can inflate it 4-5 PSI lower than that.

Step 3: Attach the air compressor to the valve and wait until it has already efficiently inflated the tire. You can check the pressure by using a pressure gauge. Some compressors have this however, it is advisable to use a different pressure gauge as often times, the built in gauge in compressors are not calibrated so they will not produce accurate results.

Step 4: Once done, put the valve cap back on the tire again. Secure it tightly.

Give the scooter a little test. Sometimes, you need to experiment on the right PSI level to check the best one for you. Just make sure you stick closely to the recommended one and never go beyond it as it may cause the tire to burst.
